With eternal blessings of Panch Parmesthi, Jain Society of Central Florida (JSOCF) has taken a very auspicious step towards the completion of the new Sikharbandhi Derasar in Orlando area. JSOCF members performed the Shilanyas Mahotsav on August 4th and 5thwith family and friends.

In accordance with our traditions, the ground was excavated in the same location where the Gabhara of the new Derasar will be located and a gold covered Kurm (Tortois) placed in the location. According to our traditions, the strong back of the Kurm provides a solid rock like foundation for the new Derasar. The main “Dharani Shila” will be placed on the strong back of this Kurm and will become the central foundation base of the main Gabhara. Eight other shilas will be placed around the Dharani Shila, each representing a weapon of Dikpal and will be placed facing the eight disha’s (directions). Additional shilas were placed for each of the 24 Tirthankar’s and the devi devta’s. Our Derasar built on this foundation will be a perpetual source of Jainism based inspiration for generations to come.

The vidhikar for this Mahotsav was Shri Narendrabhai Nandu who provided guidance for all events and explained the special significance and meaning behind each vidhi and pujan.

This shilanyas event has taken us to the next step of building “Our Derasar” and celebrate the Pratistha Mahotsav next year.
